Owning an animal is a lot of responsibility. If you're going through a difficult time in life, it probably means your pet is too. In this story, the protagonist is a wholesome cat owning hooman. She lives with her boyfriend, and after some financial difficulties they are forced to forfeit their apartment and move in with the protagonist's mother. Due to the change, her cat is not taking the move well. She meows nonstop because she's in distress, and instead of being understanding, the mom is merely annoyed. She tells her daughter to get rid of the cat before they get evicted.
